Every organization wants to know how to get to better, faster, leaner, smarter. Benchmarking against best in class organizations is a key to fast learning.  Gathering and using comparative data is a common practice, but people often use the terms comparative and benchmark interchangeably, but they really represent two different ideas. The Baldrige criteria defines benchmarking as the processes and results that represent the best practices and best performance for similar activities, inside or outside your organization's industry.  Organizations engage in benchmarking to understand the current dimensions of world-class performance and to achieve "breakthrough" improvement.

The Performance Excellence Network is pleased to welcome Libby Smith and Brenda Krueger from ARC Evaluation at the University of Wisconsin-Stout for this presentation on taking your use of comparison data to the next level. Using examples from their work on the new University Benchmarking Project, the presenters will define the differences between comparison data and benchmarking practices. The discussion will include examples of how organizations are applying best practices across sectors in order to achieve next level results. Attendees will have the opportunity to identify and discuss sources of comparative data within their own organization and how they might look outside of their sector for best-in-class practices.

The University of Wisconsin-Stout was a 2001 Baldrige Award Winner and continues to be a leader in advancing best practices that align with the Baldrige criteria. Smith and Krueger both serve on the university's Baldrige Team and Krueger is a member of the University Benchmarking Project team.

Continental breakfast will be served from 7:15 to 7:45 with announcements at 7:45 and the presentation from 8:00 to 9:00 am.  No cost for members; $30 for non-members.
