Best Practices to Address Staffing Challenges & Improve Workforce Engagement -- Mar 17 Mankato Area Breakfast

Registration is closed for this event
All organizations today struggle to find enough good workers: the staffing shortage in our region is real and seemingly not going away any time soon.  So organizations need to find ways to best operate given this challenge: they need to improve their recruiting and selection processes, how they engage and retain their workers, and how they build teams that are still effective despite staffing shortages.

The Performance Excellence Network is pleased to host a special discussion featuring Jessica Miller of DEED, Jackie Kimmet of River’s Edge Hospital, Kelce Woods-Nord of South Central College, and possibly others, at our March 17 Mankato area PEN breakfast entitled “Best Practices to Address Staffing Challenges & Improve Workforce Engagement.”

We will first hear from Jessica Miller, Workforce Strategy Consultant with the Minnesota Department of Employment & Economic Development (DEED), who will explore the current state of the workforce in the Mankato area, sharing demographic trends and workforce projections that are impacting our local organizations.  We will then hear from two or three other local leaders, each sharing their insights and best practices for improving staffing levels and workforce effectiveness.  Confirmed are Jackie Kimmet with River’s Edge Health Center, who will share some of the best practices they have used to reduce workforce turnover from 28% to 6%, and Kelce Woods-Nord with South Central College, who will explore dual-training and apprenticeships, which help with recruitment and retention.  Kelce will also share how the College helps employers in finding and applying for statewide funding to cover workforce training costs.   We will then open the discussion up to all participants, to ask questions of our presenters, but to also share their insights and ideas for improving workforce-related processes.

The discussion will be hosted by South Central College in North Mankato.  Continental breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:00 with the discussion from 8:00 to 9:00 am.  No cost for PEN members; $30 for non-member guests.
