Leading through the (COVID-19) Crisis -- Apr 16 Online Video Panel Discussion

Registration is closed for this event
In what seems like just a blink of the eye, our worlds changed last month.  The COVID-19 pandemic arrived in the United States, and with it, changed our social habits and lifestyles as well as our economy and our organizations.  The impact is being felt by our businesses, our hospitals and senior care facilities, our schools, our nonprofits and governmental agencies – some are completely shut down and just hoping to be in a position to resume business; some have transitioned to virtual work-at-home settings; some have converted business models (such as online learning for schools) or rapidly changed products/services (such as delivery/takeout or shifting a production line to make PPE masks); but all have been impacted in profound ways. As leaders and professionals, we all want to sustain our missions through this crisis, but the road may long and challenging.  And we could all stand to learn from each other to navigate these tough times.

In place of what would be a normal PEN breakfast forum (so bring your own coffee!), the Performance Excellence Network is pleased to host a special online livestream panel discussion on Thursday, April 16: “Leading through the (COVID-19) Crisis.”

The panel will feature leaders from different sectors and different PEN communities, each sharing their insights on sustaining a business/organization through this tough time – real insights of what’s working and, candidly, what’s not.  The panel will be:

  • Brian Benshoof, CEO, MRCI, Mankato
  • Teresa Riffel, VP of Quality, Cirrus, Duluth
  • Rachelle Schultz, President/CEO, Winona Health, Winona
  • Jay Stroebel, City Manager, City of Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Park
  • Brenda Welsch, Director of Quality & Regulatory Affairs, LifeSource, Minneapolis
  • Klint Willert, Superintendent, Brookings Schools, Brookings

The discussion will focus on topics that are relevant in today’s environment, such as:

  • best practices in leading through crisis
  • tips on effective two-way communication
  • how to maintain customer relationships during tough times
  • how to rapidly shift strategy or change how you implement action plans during a rapidly changing environment
  • how to manage and engage an anxious (and virtual) workforce
  • how to manage change, including minimizing the impact of necessary workforce reductions
  • how to solve problems and change business models -- to redesign processes and/or products and services to accommodate new market needs and/or new environmental realities
  • how to ensure continuity of operations with uncertainty in supply chain, funding sources, market demand, and workforce availability
  • how to manage risk as best as possible

The conversation will begin with each panelist’s context and high-level insights, and then lead into a moderated discussion on Zoom.  Depending on the number of participants, questions will be solicited by chat feature.

All of us are dealing with significant change, stress, and uncertainty.  Explore how to sustain your organization and how to ensure your own resiliency through what likely is a once-in-a-century event.

The discussion will be livestreamed over Zoom Thursday, April 16 from 8:00-9:00.  Grab your coffee and breakfast, and join us for a rich discussion.  No cost for members; $20 non-members.
