Neuroscience-Powered Leadership -- June 6 IN-PERSON WORKSHOP

Today, organizations continue to experience challenges like never before: staffing shortages, inflationary pressure & economic uncertainty, managing a virtual/hybrid workforce, navigating supply chain issues, and managing through accelerating change are but a few of the many challenges facing today’s leaders. But – with the complexity of organizations – where does one start? How do you know on which areas to focus? And how to do you sustain the improvement over time?

Scientific research shows that a highly effective way to reduce stress is to give it to someone else. Unfortunately, leaders often pass their anger and frustration on to their followers with micromanagement, mandates, blaming, retaliation, displacement aggression, and other toxic behaviors. Abusive leaders are terrible stressors.

Stress and leadership are intimately connected, but this complex relationship rarely receives adequate attention. High stress and burnout are direct causes and inevitable consequences of poor leadership. In contrast, low stress and burnout are hallmarks of effective leadership. In times of increasing uncertainty, possessing efficient stressor management skills separates good leaders from bad ones.

The Performance Excellence Network is pleased to announce a powerful workshop on June 6: Neuroscience-Powered Leadership: How Good Leaders Beat High Stress & Burnout.  The workshop will be hosted in-person (TBD in the Twin Cities) and will be facilitated by Dr. Terry Wu (biography below).

Dr. Wu has built a new scientific framework of leadership that centers on mitigating leaders’ and followers’ stressors. This framework distills more than eight decades of scientific research into stress’ impacts on human behavior and turns it into easy-to-implement practices. It fundamentally changes how leaders see their roles in making their followers feel safe. It provides research-proven tools and skills that empower leaders to make better decisions that result in better outcomes.

The participants of this workshop will develop an understanding of how leadership and stress are deeply intertwined. They will explore how to mitigate the impacts of work-related stressors for their employees to create a safe, productive workplace. More importantly, they will discover how leaders can avoid becoming their followers’ stressors.

The session will be hosted in the Twin Cities (location TBD) from 9:00-3:30; lunch and materials included.

Investment is $325 for members ($650 for non-members).  Discounts available for teams of 3-4 from the same organization registering at the same time ($300) as well as teams of 5+ ($275). An optional 90 minute one-on-one coaching session can be added for $125/person.
